My Mama

My Mama is a spectacular human being. Besides being mother to 3 of the most wonderful creatures God placed on this earth (my two sisters and me!!!), she is wife to my father (who merits his own blog coming soon), grandmother to the most awesome grandkids, and also my boss (which has nothing to do with this moment of praise). One of Mother's gifts is cooking, and she loves to share that gift with others. She loves making your favorite things, or things you suggest might be your favorite, though you have never had them before, and seeing you enjoy them. Last weekend, before Richard was leaving to deploy, she had the whole family over and cooked an entire menu of Richard's requests, featuring Chicken Parmesan and an Ultimate Carrot Cake. Now the process of making the carrot cake was full of snafu's, though it still came out wonderfully made (just like Mother) and Richard enjoyed it to the fullest. Most of you know, Richard left last weekend only to get delayed in Dallas and ultimately get sent back home for another week. My oldest sister, Michelle, thoughtful as she is, decided we needed to work this to our advantage and see what else we could get Mama to cook "for Richard" before he left again. Soooo...I got the new Southern Living magazine in the mail on Thursday and sort of suggested to Mama that Richard really, really wanted her to make the pumpkin bread pudding with caramel pecan sauce that was featured in that issue....even though he hadn't even seen the recipe, nor even knew that it existed. I was quite sure he would enjoy it just as much as the rest of us. So, yesterday morning when we all got up to get ready for our hunting trip, Mama commented to Richard that she had prepared that bread pudding he wanted...which he responded with a very blank expression and said, what are you talking about? I said to Mama, ok, so it was really me that wanted the bread pudding, but I'm sure that Richard will love it! Which he did..as did all the rest of us. These are the types of things that Mama does..and I could very well have said to her that I wanted her to make it for me and she would have done it just the same. Because she loves me. The Lord has blessed Mama with so many qualities that I pray to have just a few of for my own children to respect. I'm so grateful for her and the example she has given me on what it means to be a mother. For so many years, I was probably not aware of the blessing God had given me by allowing me to be born into this family, but I now know with full revelation that His plan was always in place and that there is always a reason for His actions. I love you, Mama!
